What Role Does a Junior Bridesmaid Play?

A A junior bridesmaid is a young lady whose age is beyond the range of a flower girl, but who is not quite mature enough to take on the duties of a regular bridesmaid. Her responsibilities are similar to those of a flower girl -- she will need to purchase her dress, attend the rehearsal, and participate in the processional. If there is a young man serving as a junior groomsman, he can escort her; otherwise, it is fine for her to walk alone. She has the honor of standing with the other bridesmaids, but should be positioned at the end farthest from the bride. Her attire should coordinate with the rest of the bridal party, and the dress should be age-appropriate. If the bridesmaids are donning strapless or low-cut dresses, the junior bridesmaid should wear a more modest style that is made of the same fabric.

A junior bridesmaid is not required to help host, or attend, the bridal shower. She is not included in the bachelorette party unless the event is appropriate for a younger girl.
