What should I consider before including my pet in my wedding?

A

First and foremost, you have to consider your wedding venue. If you’re getting married in a religious institution, make sure you check to see that pets are allowed inside before deciding to make your dog your ring bearer. If your ceremony is in a park or at a home (perhaps even a hotel), having your pet there will bring even more meaning to the event. You do have to consider your pet’s ability to remain calm and still. If your pet has a tendency to get easily excited in large crowds, consider enrolling him in obedience training in the months leading up to your wedding so that everything goes smoothly on your big day.

Also remember that while it’s fine to include well-behaved pets in a wedding ceremony, it can’t happen at the expense of the health and comfort of one of your guests. If anyone is allergic to animals, set aside a private time to take pictures with your beloved pet before the ceremony so that your attendant won’t be standing next to you with a runny nose as you recite your vows.
