What should you do when someone in your bridal party backs out?

A

If a bridal party member backs out early in your planning and before you have announced the names of all your attendants, it is easy to ask someone else to take her place. It is considered impolite to ask someone to fill in at the last minute; however, there are exceptions, such as asking a close friend who would be honored to fill in.

Peggy Post, our etiquette expert and internationally known spokesperson for The Emily Post Institute, answers your questions and provides helpful etiquette advice on everything from attire and invitations to toasting and receptions.
