In the new bridal comedy, Bride Wars (in theaters January 9), corporate attorney Liv (Kate Hudson) and teacher Emma (Anne Hathaway) have been best friends since their childhood days -- most of which were spent dreaming of having the perfect June wedding at New York's Plaza Hotel. Now, they're all grown up, and their boyfriends unknowingly propose just days apart.
Ecstatic at first, their mutual wedding bliss is suddenly cut short after their highly renowned celebrity planner (Candice Bergen) accidentally gives away one of their wedding dates to another bride. Neither friend is willing to move their wedding date (since it's the last June slot at The Plaza), and though they agree to work it out fairly, the line between love and hate is soon crossed. Now both girls must find a replacement maid of honor, fast! Each bride, determined to take the other's wedding down, sets off an elaborate sabotage scheme involving bad tanning, blue hair, and dance lessons from hell.
Get ready to laugh (Emma's MOH stand-in is a flaky drunk!), cringe (one bride replaces the other's wedding montage DVD with a best-of-spring-break clip!), and cry (every war has a winner…and a loser!). Here's our bride-friendly movie breakdown:
3 Things Brides Will Love About It
- In true wedding fashion, the brides reign supreme! Expect to see very little of the grooms, the families, or the bridal party -- this war is 100-percent bride on bride.
- The bridezilla jokes! You'll want to take advantage of this perfect opportunity to poke fun at your own recent stress-induced planning antics. (Make a date with your MOH now.)
- Watching how easily the best-laid plans can fold is a great lesson in how to avoid the most common wedding disasters.
3 Things Brides Won't Love About It
- If you're looking for a new spin on the old bride movie concept, you'll be disappointed. The jokes are expected -- though hilarious -- and it won't take you long to call the winner.
- If you're gown-crazy, forget about getting any inspirations from this movie. Despite what you saw in the trailer, the gown-shopping scene lasts just a few minutes. These girls know exactly what they want (not exactly a reality).
- It's a little too short and sweet. If this is your pick for dinner-and-a-movie date night, expect to be home early. In an effort to keep you entertained, the film really picks up the plot's pace. (This means less talk about decor, flowers, and food, and way more pouting, stomping, and screaming.)
