Are Destination Weddings Popular With Celebrities?

A

Absolutely. Many A-list couples chose to whisk themselves away to a gorgeous setting outside of the US. Read the details on major celebrity weddings orchestrated from afar.

*Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise: The famous couple said their “I dos” in front of more than 150 guests during a sunset ceremony at the Odescalchi Castle in Lake Bracciano, Italy, in the fall of 2006. Katie carried a bouquet of calla lilies and wore an off-the-shoulder Armani gown complete with an ivory silk train adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery. The guests enjoyed the sounds of Italian singer Andrea Bocelli at the reception and enjoyed the sweet delights of the couple's five-tiered, white chocolate cake studded with marzipan roses and white-chocolate chips.

*Eva Longoria & Tony Parker: French laws require that couples make their marriage official in a civil ceremony, so on the Friday before their weekend extravaganza, Eva and Tony did just that. For their more lavish Catholic ceremony at the Church of Saint Germain l’Auxerrois in Paris, Eva wore a mermaid-style gown made of silk wool and silk gazar metallic embroidery by Angel Sanchez Couture. The two then treated guests to a wonderful reception held at the seventeenth-century Chateau of Vaux-le-Vicomte, just outside of Paris. About 250 guests attended this fairy-tale wedding that continued into the early morning.

*Heidi Klum & Seal: This twosome opted for a low-key ceremony with about 40 guests in attendance near Seal’s home in Mexico’s beautiful Costa Careyes outside of Puerto Vallarta. The spring bride donned an ivory, chantilly lace gown with an Empire waist created by Vera Wang. The famous couple incorporated their fun personalities into the affiar by having their cake topped with miniature images of themselves. At the reception, which was held at Seal’s home, the singer serenaded his new wife with a song written especially for the occasion.
