Can Trustworthy Vendors Be Found From a Distance?

A

The best way to find trustworthy vendors is to hire an on-site wedding coordinator who’s familiar with wedding vendors at your location. Most resorts offer packages that include a coordinator, but you can also find an expert who has the requisite knowledge and experience. Many wedding planners specialize in destination weddings and can serve as a liaison between you and your vendors.

Relying on an experienced coordinator will alleviate much of your planning stress. You can avoid spending hours searching for legitimate vendors and dealing with the complications that may arise when making foreign contracts. By conveying your vision to an in-house coordinator, you can focus on other aspects while he relays your requests to those far-off.

If you have any qualms about using vendors that have been chosen by a coordinator, ask to see examples of their work. Have them send pictures from previous weddings to make sure their styles match yours. If you do choose to hire vendors on your own, be sure to do careful research -- either online or through recommendations from couples who have actually used them before. The last thing you need is for someone to not show up with the cake, or worse, charge you without performing any service at all. Remember, you always have the option of selecting your favorite vendors from home and flying them over with you.
