Telling an ex is always tricky, especially if he isn’t currently with someone. The most important thing is to make sure he hears it from you instead of someone else. Obviously, he’s not going to be the first person you tell, but make sure to let him know sooner rather than later. I know it’s hard to make such a call (or email -- depending on how close you two are still), but you just have to suck it up and do it. While you might be worried about hurting his feelings, it’ll ultimately make it easier on him in the long run.
