How can we save money on our wedding entertainment?

A

Make sure you check for hidden costs in any contracts you sign and factor in extra costs when planning your wedding budget. Don’t forget about taxes, gratuities (it’s considered nice to tip each musician $15 to $20 after the reception), band equipment fees, and overtime. The cost of the band includes fees for the musicians' time and the minimum amount of equipment needed. If your reception space is extra-large, then additional speakers and microphones could possibly be required to project the best sound quality.

DJs are usually less expensive than live bands. The best DJs and bands are in highest demand on Saturday nights, so try Friday or Sunday for a slightly discounted rate. If you really want to save money in this area and are having a more intimate reception, rent speakers to plug into a high-quality stereo; then have fun switching back and forth between playlists.

If you do choose to have a band, keep it small. A small band with modern and up-to-date equipment won’t sound small at all. Or, have the band do double-duty, playing at your wedding ceremony and then at your reception.
