How can we save on our invitations and other stationery?

A

The easiest way to save money on your wedding invitations is to keep them simple (remember, this doesn’t mean they won’t be elegant!). Top-quality paper, fancy typography techniques, and custom-colored inks increase the price, as do decorative envelope linings and multiple enclosures. Choose one standout element and keep the rest of your invitation simple. Use response postcards or make save-the-dates yourself. To keep postage costs down, stay away from oversized or overweight styles, which cost extra to mail. Here are some other ways to lower wedding invitation costs -- and go green in the process!

  • Send out save-the-dates via email, Evite, or Facebook (with a few paper versions for your technologically challenged relatives, of course!).
  • Consider a DIY kit from your local craft store for your engagement party invites or thank-you notes.
  • Have guests RSVP to your wedding website, which will cut down on the need for response cards.

It's really amazing how much money you can save by sending out STDs online. We just sent ours out using the MyRegistry.com free eCard service. To think of all the money we would have spent on printing and postage is just crazy! It's really worth it to do your STD cards via e-mail
