Do we have to serve dessert in addition to the wedding cake?

A

Many couples choose to serve dessert in addition to wedding cake at their reception, but this is certainly not mandatory. You can do either or both -- it's your call. Wedding cakes are considered the primary dessert at your wedding. That said, if you want to serve a bonus dessert, there are lots of ways to do so: You could also serve some smaller cakes on each table (a great way for the bride and groom to have both their favorite cake flavors), cupcakes, or a groom’s cake to provide guests with more flavor and dessert options.

Some couples choose to have a dessert table in lieu of or in addition to a wedding cake. Dessert tables can include a spread of cookies decorated in your wedding colors, along with pastries, fruits, cheeses, mini desserts, and more. Throw your favorite sweets into the mix to personalize your table, or bake your favorite recipe to share a homemade treat with your wedding guests.
