I’ve heard of “faking” the wedding cake; what does this mean?
"Faking” the wedding cake means that the six-tiered cake sitting atop the cake table at your wedding reception might actually be made of frosted foam-core, though you won't have a clue from looking at it. It’s perfectly acceptable (and common) to do this -- having a “fake” cake is a great way to go because creating and making sure a big-and-tall cake will hold up can be very expensive! Slices of real sheet wedding cake will be kept in the kitchen where guests cannot see and served as dessert, and the decoration on the fake cake can be as elaborate as you want -- no one has to worry about how to cut a monstrous cake, or that it will fall over! The best part is, the part of the cake you cut together for your photo op can be the only part of the cake that's actually real or edible. Your cake baker will discretely mark where to cut -- your guests will never notice.
