What should my wedding programs say?

A

Wedding programs are basically a guide to the wedding ceremony. Here's a basic format, though yours only has to include what you want it to.

List the order of the service starting with the processional, filling guests in on any service music, translations, and symbolic meaning along the way. You should also include the text of any prayers or readings. Some couples may also choose to include a poem or one of your favorite quotes.

List the names of all your wedding attendants, readers, officiant, and altar assistants or soloists. Some couples also list the names of their parents and grandparents.

At the end of the program, you and your groom can write a note of thanks to your guests and anyone you'd like to specially recognize in your wedding programs as well. Programs typically have a cover page with the couple's name and wedding date. You can also include a picture of the two of you or another image that fits your wedding theme.
