Peggy Post, Emily Post's great granddaughter-in-law, is a spokesperson and author for the Emily Post Institute. The Institute, created by Emily in 1946, serves as a "civility barometer" for American society and continues Emily's work by remaining the definitive source on etiquette. Peggy began her work with the Institute in 1991 through speaking engagements and media interviews. In 1995, Peggy succeeded her mother-in-law, Elizabeth L. Post -- after Elizabeth's 30-year tenure with the Institute.
Peggy's first book, the 16th edition of
Emily Post's Etiquette, was published in May, 1997 by HarperCollins, and marked the 75th anniversary of "Etiquette" and its influence on society. Peggy's second book,
Emily Post's Entertaining, was first published in 1998. In 1999 a major title on weddings,
Emily Post's Weddings and the companion piece,
Emily Post's Wedding Planning were released.In November, 1999 the Posts published their first hardcover title on the subject of business etiquette, entitled
The Etiquette Advantage in Business: Personal Skills for Professional Success.
In addition to books, Peggy writes a monthly etiquette column in
Good Housekeeping magazine, a Post tradition since 1970. Peggy also writes a monthly etiquette column for
Parents magazine, providing parents with advice on raising polite children. In the Spring of 1999, Peggy began writing a quarterly column for "Bride Again" magazine, the first publication dedicated to the encore bride.
A well-known media personality, Peggy conducts hundreds of interviews annually. She has provided etiquette advice on network programs including NBC's
The Today Show and
Dateline and CBS's
Nightly News and
This Morning, as well as networks such as CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, FOX, A&E, Lifetime Television, Animal Planet, and the Bloomberg Business Network. She has been interviewed by nearly every major daily newspaper in America. She has appeared on syndicated programs including
The Oprah Winfrey Show,
The View, and
Live With Regis and Kathie Lee.
In 1979, Peggy married Allen Post, Emily's great-grandson. The couple resides in Florida. They were married on Martha's Vineyard and their reception was held in Emily's summer residence. Peggy is stepmother to Allen's two sons, Casey and Jeep. They are all active outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy skiing, golf, and fishing.
