Why do wedding flowers cost so much?

A Flowers for your wedding really start to add up for a few reasons. The biggest percentage of the cost is the labor and time your florist puts in to creating your flower arrangements the way you’d like them. Also, if you want flowers that aren’t in-season at the time of your wedding, you’ll have to pay the florist more to have them shipped from somewhere else. Do your research before you get your heart set on one type of bloom, and see when what flowers are in-season. If you really want to save money on flowers, consider arranging the bouquets and centerpieces yourself. You can pick up flowers from your local market or grocery store. Plan to do this only if you know you’ll have the time before the ceremony and if you have great family and friends willing to help. Some brides even take flowers from their own backyards or their parents’ backyards, which adds special meaning to the blooms. If DIY isn’t your thing, just choose simple flower arrangements -- the less complex the design, the less labor-intensive it is for your florist. Aug 05, 2009
