If you’re like most brides, looking good on your wedding day is top priority. But putting your hair in the hands of stylist can sometimes be scary -- especially when it comes to picking out a look that complements your hair type, wedding style, and your personal aesthetic. Not sure which Hollywood ‘do works for you? Check out these four fresh styles straight from this year’s hottest red carpet events.
1. ‘40s Waves (Inspiration: Katy Perry at the Grammys)
Best for: Curly or Wavy Hair
Look: Vintage Brides
Directions: (FYI: This look usually works best with dirty hair.) First, spritz your hair with a thermal styling spray. Then separate your hair into two-inch sections. Start by wrapping each section around the curling iron starting at the tips, and then twist up to the roots. Hold the curling iron firmly in place for no more than 30 seconds before moving on to another section. Once you‘re finished, gently run a paddle brush over your curls until they separate into a pretty wave. Finish it off with a spritz of spray gel or hair spray.
2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s Updo (Inspiration: Penelope Cruz at the BAFTAs)
Best for: Medium or Long Straight Hair
Look: Glamorous Brides
Directions: (Avoid this look if you already have cowlick issues. Bangs must be razor cut and texturized in an uneven pattern, which can cause major hair drama if your ‘do has a tendency to misbehave.) First, tightly pull your hair (minus your bangs) into a high ponytail so your locks fan out around the back of your head. Take your pony and wrap it under, securing with bobby pins and spray with extra-hold hair spray or gel. Once your updo is in place, take a small dab of gel and run it through your fingers before separating your bangs into a piecey look. When you’re done, spritz with extra-hold hair spray to secure in place.
3. Side Pony (Inspiration: America Ferrera at the Screen Actors Guild Awards)
Best for: All Hair Types
Look: Modern Brides
Directions: Wash and condition your hair and dry it with a diffuser. Take a dollop of styling gel and run through your hair while sectioning it into smaller pieces. Then, take a large-barrel curling iron and wrap each section around it. Once you’re done, pull your hair into a loose ponytail and secure it at one side of your neck. Sweep your bangs in the direction of your pony, and, if you have any stray locks, curl them to form romantic, carefree tendrils.
4. Grecian Goddess (Inspiration: Amanda Seyfried at the Golden Globes)
Best for: Wavy Hair
Look: Romantic Brides
Directions: Wash, condition, and dry your hair, then spritz it with a thermal styling spray. Set your hair in rollers and leave them in until they’re cool. Once they’ve been removed, add a small amount of shine serum to your fingertips and comb it through your hair. When you’re done, pull your hair back in a loose ponytail in the middle of the back of your head and separate it into five to seven sections. Gently comb each section before twisting it into a curl and securing with bobby pins. Once you’ve pinned all your hair, spritz with extra-hold hair spray.
