Like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, you want the fairy tale. You love the idea of a knight in shining armor. You believe in destiny, finding your soul mate and being swept off your feet. You want your big day to reflect your love of a wind-swept dreamy romance, and you want your guests to know that your event will be as romantic as you are.
And what goes better with a fairytale romance than a storybook invitation? Tell the tale of how you met, filled with romantic embellishments, maybe a few "thines" or "haths," and of course, a radiant "happily ever after." Have the creation calligraphed by hand, complete with beautiful decorative flourishes and bound with gold tassels, organza ribbon or velvet cord.
For a simpler invitation, use shorn linen paper with a double fold printed in a heavily scripted font and tied with a sumptuous piece of organdy ribbon. It will make your guests feel like they are opening an
invitation to Cinderella's ball. The thicker and more textured the paper, the better. Using oversized paper gives an even grander effect.
You can also use sweeping floral images and whimsical greenery on the card stock, which will further appeal to your dreamy nature.
Even if you do use more traditional wording, you will want to add phrases such as "Come share our love" or "Join us as we join together in love;" words that express the joyous nature of your personality and love.
