Music and Dance: Do It Yourself

While creating all the music yourself might seem impractical, creating some of it is entirely possible. After all, great music is great music. Here are our favorite ways to do it yourself.

The Ceremony:

All your favorite wedding marches including "Here Comes The Bride," "Wedding March," "Ave Maria" and so many others can easily be found at your local music store. Snap up a collection of pre-recorded classics, or if have you a CD burner or dual cassette, it's easy to create your own anthology. If you are recording on tape, be sure to leave a brief pause between selections. That way, whoever is running your sound system has wiggle room to cue up.

Cocktail Hour:

Create or purchase a toe-tapping collection of jazz standards for your cocktail hour. Let your guests sip their drinks with greats crooners like Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Or heat up the room with the likes of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane and Miles Davis. If it's big band sound you're after -- we love Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. For a more contemporary feel, pick up a collection of your favorite tunes. We love the eclectic background sounds of everyone from Van Morrison, Eric Clapton and The Beatles, to Chet Baker, Andre Segovia and Moby. Let your musical tastes be your guide.

Dance Lessons:

All eyes are on you for your first dance, and you want to look like you know your way around the two-step, right? Easy enough: Buy (or rent) a videocassette that features dance lessons. Need more personal guidance? Sign up for private lessons at a local dance studio.
