Color Your Wedding

Here are some classic and creative ways to play with color at your wedding.

The Bridal Party

The rustle of a bridesmaids dress usually heralds a sweep of color coming down the aisle. Most guests have come to expect wedding colors used in the dresses, bouquets, and boutonnieres of the bridal party. But those are just a few ways to accent your attendants. Instead of pearls, why not bestow your bridesmaids with a gift of semi-precious gemstone jewelry in your favorite shade. A neutral dress can be beautifully set off by a gorgeous pair of gloves, a hair ornament, sash or wrap. Bouquets, nosegays, boutonnieres and corsages can be tied with colorful ribbons. Even the bride's cascade of blooms can be arranged in a coordinated keepsake tussy-mussy.

The accent color of a groomsman's vest looks especially handsome highlighted by a classic handkerchief tucked into his jacket pocket. Ringbearers can march down the aisle with colorful pillows in hand, while flowergirls swing decorated baskets full of wedding-hued petals.

Stationery

It isn't just paper and ink that can play a colorful role in your invitations. Entertain the idea of using beautiful envelope linings, or press your initials in shades of sealing wax. Your wedding programs can be tied with coordinated cording, and your guest book can be a colorful entré to your whole event.

Decorations

If you ask, your florist will be sure to use your wedding colors in ceremony and reception arrangements, but there lots of other unexpected places you can add your touch. A colorful aisle runner stretching the length of your ceremony site is an unusual sight, and if you take your vows under an arch, arbor, or huppah, you'll find many a nook and cranny to add blooms, ribbon, fabric and other dashes of color. Swag the aisle with bows, or flowers. And don't be convinced that it's just floral arrangements that get to take center stage in centerpieces. Show off your shades with candles, linens, and picture frames. Invite your guests to dine with a personalized place card, or a handwritten menu.

There are so many delightful and unique places to add splashes of your favorite hues, so don't be afraid to experiment with ideas. The personal touch of your own designs and concepts truly help to make your wedding celebration as original and unforgettable for your guests as it is for you.
