Reception Theme Ideas

Pull your reception details together with one of these inspired themes.

Have you ever noticed how some weddings just look so perfect? Well, the secret is really pretty simple. It’s probably a well-executed theme that’s holding all the details together. Like a color scheme, a theme can make your reception and ceremony feel cohesive. Looking for inspiration for your reception style? Here are three theme ideas to try:

Vineyard

You certainly don’t have to head to wine country to get that vineyard feel. There are lots of ways to transform your space, but it does help to choose a venue that’s either outdoors or has an old-world feel. Then you can just bring in some wine-inspired elements, such as grapes, vines, barrels, or bottles. Stick escort cards into wine corks and display them atop giant wooden barrels. You could also use a grape motif in your stationery. Replace vases with vintage wine bottles arranged in baskets for the perfect centerpiece idea, and serve a different wine with each course. The perfect favor: A bottle of wine -- you can even customize the label.

Homespun

If your guest list is short, skip the grand affair and opt for a casual reception at home. Convert your backyard into an outdoor ceremony and reception space. For your centerpieces, go with simple floral arrangements and scatter framed family photos, heirlooms, and keepsakes around them for added charm. Picking blooms right from your garden adds a special touch! Arrange candles along paths in your yard and throughout the rooms where guests will mingle. Set up a mini bar in your kitchen. To end the night, carry the theme into your favors by handing out something that has a personal, handmade touch, like an ornament or flowerpot.

Old-Hollywood Glamour

Here’s your chance to go for some over-the-top details and play up the glitz factor. Travel back to the ‘40s and ‘50s where class and style reigned supreme in Hollywood. Start with a bold red, black, and white color palette -- use black and white for your table linens and settings and red roses in your centerpieces. Feathers and crystals were all the rage back then, so find a chic way to incorporate those into your table decor as well. Print escort cards that resemble old movie ticket stubs, using classic movie titles for your table names. For your entertainment, hire a swing band to perform during the cocktail hour and ask your photographer to shoot some images in black and white. Remember, this is old Hollywood we’re talking about here, so when it comes to your details, go for ritzy romance, not over-the-top glam.
