Damask: A kind of linen, silk, cotton or rayon fabric made with flat patterns interwoven into the fabric. Often used for formal napkins and tablecloths.

Dance Floor: The designated area for reception celebrations, including dancing, cake-cutting, speeches and toasts. Commonly the area is adjacent to the bandstand, stage or DJ booth, and is centrally located. It is important to select a dance floor size appropriate for the number of wedding guests. Consult with a flooring professional to determine the size you'll need.

Destination Wedding: Selected wedding sites that are foreign, distant or exotic locations. Often destination weddings require advance planning, and comprehensive travel assistance and hotel accommodation information for guests. If the destination is abroad or requires customs clearance, the proper identification and papers will be required from all attending.

DJ Booth: A sectioned area for the DJ to "spin" (or play) the music of choice. While the DJ should be informed well in advance of the event of the type of music preferred for dining and dancing, guests should be allowed to approach the DJ booth to make song requests.

Estate Rentals: Often grand, stately homes or mansions available for rental for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Impressive and historical, estate rentals are popular sites in many exclusive communities, such as Newport, Rhode Island; Palm Beach, Florida; and Napa Valley, California.

Generator: A power generator is needed for outdoor sites or locations where a large power source is not easily available. Identify, with your vendors, the wattage of each appliance you will be using so you at least have a rough idea of what size generator you will need. You will also need enough power to operate the motor and pumps that the generator requires.

Gondola (or Funicular): For remote, high altitude and steep locations, overhead cable car-like vehicles may be the only means of transportation to your selected site. It is crucial that you make all of your wedding guests and service providers fully aware that gondolas (or the like) will be the only method of transport PRIOR to the event.

Guest Book Table: An area for wedding guests and loved ones to sign a keepsake journal with well wishes for the newly married couple. Often set near the reception, the book -- formally designed and bound -- should be accompanied by a similarly elegant pen.
