Are There Alternatives To A Receiving Line?

A

A receiving line can take a considerable amount of time, depending on how many guests you have, and can end up passing in one big blur, as your time with each person is severely limited. One practical alternative is to visit each table as a couple -- this method enables you to chat with several people at the same time. If you can't possibly get to every table as a twosome, divide and conquer after you've each been introduced by the other to friends or relations you haven't met prior to the event. Although it isn't the perfect situation, every guest will have gotten a greeting and a thank-you, and no one will leave angry that they traveled a long distance and never got to meet the bride (or groom). Err on spending time with those you don't see often, such as out-of-town guests, and be sure to make a speech to thank all the guests as a couple before the reception has ended.
