How can I ensure that my guests will enjoy our cocktail hour and menu selections?
Considering your guests' food preferences is a thoughtful gesture. But incorporating everyone's specific requests into your reception would be difficult or even impossible. So, no, you don't need to ask everyone about food allergies. However, you can plan well. Serve a variety of foods that appeal to many tastes. If you offer something that is heavily spiced, also provide a blander alternative. Avoid foods cooked in peanuts, peanut oil or MSG; these often cause allergic reactions. Have ample drinks (various nonalcoholic, in addition to any alcohol). Guests with restrictions such as allergies, medical conditions or religious sanctions are used to inquiring before eating.
