How long do wedding receptions usually run?

On average,
wedding receptions that include full meals last around four hours, but you and the venue must agree on the time frame in advance. If you don’t want the party to end so soon, consider keeping the fun going with an after-party either at a separate space in your venue or at an entirely new location.
A separate
invitation isn't necessary, but it's a nice touch. If you don’t plan on paying for everyone’s drinks at the after-party, consider putting up a sign near the bar toward the end of the night or have your DJ make an announcement. Let guests know that the open bar is closing, but everyone is more than welcome to join you at your next stop.
The after-party can also be spur-of-the-moment or a smaller affair -- just grab your wedding party at the end of the night and tell them to follow you to your hotel’s rooftop bar or meet in one of the guest rooms. Sep 01, 2009
