What makes an ideal reception venue?

A An ideal wedding reception venue follows these criteria:

  • Accommodates your guest list -- and comfortably so, not standing-room-only. You want your guests to have enough room to move and dance around! (Check to make sure that the venue has an ample number of bathrooms as well.)
  • Is available right after your ceremony ends. You don’t want to keep guests waiting any more than 30 minutes.
  • Matches your wedding’s level of formality. A daytime wedding and a nighttime wedding come with two different styles. Sometimes, no matter how much decorating you do, a venue won’t be appropriate for a wedding's style.
  • Is easily accessible for your guests. And if it’s not, consider hiring some sort of transportation service for them (and make sure guests can leave their cars at the ceremony site). If any of your family members or friends have disabilities or need some form of special service, make sure the venue can accommodate this as well.
  • Has the ideal layout. Go down your checklist and make sure the venue has room for speakers, an escort card table, a gift table, a receiving line, and a kids' room (if that’s something you’re considering).
