When preparing a wish list for your wedding registry, there are many important things to consider. Generally, couples register for things they love, things they've always wanted, and things they anticipate needing in the years ahead. However, when registering in the high summer months, it is all too easy to stock up on barbeque accessories and forget all about those warm winter blankets you'll need when Thanksgiving rolls around. On the other hand, while your new espresso machine, electric socks, and flannel sheets keep you toasty on Valentine's Day, around the Fourth of July you might find yourself wistfully thinking of that ice cream maker you nixed.
"Most brides who come into our store to register for wedding gifts already have a set thing in mind," said Kathy Ruggiero, a bridal consultant for Macy's of Braintree, Massachusetts. "If a couple comes in and requests a specific china set, we look it up on the computer. From there, we are able to see if the set has holiday versions."
If you plan to register in winter, remind yourself to think ahead to spring and summer. Sure, bright pastel napkins may not be ideal for an autumn table set with gourds, pumpkins, and Indian corn -- but when garden flowers adorn your dining room, nothing could look better. Remind yourself to consider other seasonal items like picnic baskets, "bistro" style flatware for meals al fresco, bright tablecloths, lemonade pitchers, chip and dip platters, margarita sets, and all the fixings for summer fun.
Likewise, couples who register during the long days of summer shouldn't forget about electric blankets, down comforters, French onion soup bowls, fondue sets, chenille throws, and cozy monogrammed robes to cuddle up with when the temperature falls.
The bottom line is, you'll find some items on your registry are indispensable all year round. But, it's also likely other items you use throughout the winter will be seldom touched when warmer seasons come. To make the most of this inevitable situation, make time to sit down and plan out all the things you'll want and need before you hit the stores. That way, when a beautiful springtime display catches your eye, you don't Passover some great winter buys, or put all your eggs in one Easter basket.
